On Friday, 4 of us went to the Mint on recommendation that it was a good venue for a meal out. We were greeted well and shown to our table. The adjacent table seated a large group of very loud people who were singing, swearing and spending an inordinate amount of time taking photos of each other. The noise level was such that none of us - or the people on surrounding tables could have a conversation without raising our voices. Such was the noise, that the waiter could not even hear our food order properly. I asked the waiter if he would mind asking the other table to keep the noise down. We were not asking for them to sit in silence, or to deny them a good time, just to respect the fact that there were other patrons in the restaurant who wished to have a meal and a conversation. The waiter told me that he would NOT ask them to calm down! Giving him the benefit of the doubt (thinking perhaps he had not heard me over the noise), I repeated the request - standing this time so that there could be no doubt what i was saying. The same response was given, that he would NOT ask the offending table to respect the other diners!I have eaten in many establishments and have never had such poor service. Then, one of the enthuaistic photo takers moved our table with his backside, knocking the food off the table and presented me with a view I seek to forget. He made no apology, no waiters intervened. Another of our party complained and we were moved to another table, but with no apology or attempt to make good a bad situation. At this point, I would have been bringing out the complimentary drinks! Especially after 2 complaints within 10 minutes! However, we waited over one and a half hours for the main course (we eventually had to ask where it was) which was unaceptable, and we questionned whether this was some form of punishment for complaining! We were not served by the same person more than once, had no feeling of being welcomed or being valued customers and we certainly will not be returning.I would recommend this place to people who wish to have a free for all, with no constraints on behaviour, use of abrasive language or respect for others. If this is what you seek from a night out then go to the Mint because seemingly, you can do what you want there and if you upset other diners , dont worry, because nothing will be done about it!
