The Britannia Hotel is situated right in the heart of the city, the hotel adjoins the historically famous Coventry Cathedral and it is close to the city s shopping centre and department stores. The Hotel has 205 rooms all en suite and with essential amenities like a telephone, trouser press, hairdryer, TV and complimentary tray. The hotel also has a restaurant and a bar for dining and evening entertainment.
This hotel stinks - in some parts quite literally (second floor, toilet area permeating into thw wider public space). The lifts are utterly unreliable. The internal telephone system did not work - so, amongst other things, any communication with reception had to be performed face to face. When we were there the ice machine supplying the bars was defunct (and had been for two weeks) leaving all the bars without ice. In our room, the windows though double glazed were not wind-proofed, and a cold draft was permanently blowing through the room. Meanwhile the heating was only on part time (a couple of hours in the morning, and a further couple late evening). The bathroom had mould, and water marks around the ceilings and floors. The shower thermostat was permanently stuck on cold. The mattress was too small for its base. The linen was too small for the mattress. One redeeming feature - the staff. Absolute stars, but despite their efforts they cannot possibly overcome the hotel's deficiencies. Quite how they manage to maintain their spirits working in this hell-hole I cannot begin to understand.
